From 2005-2023 (stopping due to the pandemic) I have received grants from The City of Oakland's Cultural Arts Funding Program for Individual Artists. This grant enabled me to work bedside with children (and their families) in long-term care at local hospitals. I have worked at Kaiser Permanente Oakland and Children's Hospital, Oakland. I also conducted Doll Making classes at The Mary Elizabeth Inn (a women's shelter) in San Francisco.
These dolls, made by the patients, with my assistance, can reflect his/her/their own personality or unique physical traits. Some children chose to make familiar cartoon characters, mythical creatures, or animals like their beloved pets back home.
Over the years I have also received grants from The Taylor Family Foundation, Philanthropic Ventures Foundation, City Stitchers, KALA Arts In The Community and many individuals.
